Watched the AMOS- 17 launch live. Seemed to go fast from lift off to deployment.

With no recovery (3rd use and at the customers request) and a 6.5t payload on a rocket which can lift over 8.3t to GTO, UP is definitely GO. Zoom...

They frequently need to throttle it down so a given satellite's load limits aren't exceeded.

Twitter video of the high speed (pump jet) Ms Tree net-ship catching one fairing half.

There's a telemetry link between the fairing and Ms Tree, which the net-ship guidance system uses to autonomously position itself under the fairing. The crew is hands-off at this point.

            Great News.

Is the Ms Tree ship autonomous/unmanned or are there people on board ?

Also, seeing the vid for the first time, i realise that I was expecting the ship to catch the fairing without a parachute
ie, a really really fast f-ing boat racing left and right to catch the damn thing lol.
Thats the idea I had in my head...

Crewed the whole time, but the nav system AI does the catching.

It is a really fast boat; 4 massive pump jets with over 10,400 hp of engines plus electric Thrustmaster pod thrusters, including a bow tunnel thruster that can pump port or starboard. Yup, she can translate.

Now SpaceX has two net-ships in their fleet, one for each fairing half.

              Ms. Chief

Videos of Ms. Tree (as Mr. Steven) practicing maneuvers (note the zig-zag wake & it going backwards) and an early failed attempt.
