The Starship Mk 1 orbital test vehicle is being stacked, with the nose cone (background) still to be lifted into place. This with the nose cone would be the cargo/passenger section on an operational vehicle, roughly the upper 35%±. The propulsion/fin-landing gear section is under construction.
Most of the stainless steel still has a protective coating, so shiny isn't everywhere yet.
This upper stage can sport up to 7 Raptor engines with at least 13.9 MN (3,100,000 lbf) of thrust, about 34% more than Russia's Proton launcher.

Here we go...
StarHopper
County approves another round of SpaceX road closures
SpaceX is preparing for a second round of testing at its Boca Chica Beach Launch Site.
Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. announced Tuesday that he has ordered the temporary closure of State Highway 4 from Oklahoma Avenue to Boca Chica Beach.
The closure is scheduled for May 28 between 2 and 10 p.m. or in the alternative, on May 29 and/or May 30, according to a press release.
The first round of SpaceX testing at Boca Chica Beach spanned a three-week closure during March where State Highway 4 experienced multiple closures while SpaceX tested its Starship Hopper prototype.
Those tests concluded in early April when SpaceX fired up the Starship Hopper's Raptor engine and successfully completed a short "hop."Dr. Mordrid

So the teams dont know what the other is doing? Then learn the best lessons from each team? Then the losing team gets voted off the island?
|
Elon Musk ✔ @elonmusk
The opposite. Any insights gained by one team must be shared with the other, but other team not required to use them.

When will we start seeing those crazy flap / landing leg / fins be installed? Its gotta be coming up soon down at Boca Chica!! Those are going to be an amazing piece of kit.

Elon Musk ✔ @elonmusk
Probably start installing end of next month

Two orbital prototypes to test refueling in orbit?
|
Elon Musk ✔ @elonmusk
Both sites will make many Starships. This is a competition to see which location is most effective. Answer might be both.

SpaceX McGregor has been w/out any window-rattling. When can we expect Raptor SN4 to arrive?
|
Elon Musk ✔ @elonmusk
SN4 is done. Hawthorne is working on SN5 now, but focus is ramping build rate of SN6 through SN10.

Any prediction on when you expect to reach the "100 milestone" ie building the SN100 Raptor? I hope it is early next year. You'll need a lot of engines!

Turbopump propellant flow path to achieve high chamber pressure is quite tricky. Requires an inducer & 2 impellers with ~100,000 shaft horsepower.

Hoping for 380 sec Isp, but at least 370. Otherwise similar to sea level version.

SPEXcast @SPEXcast
With Raptor development progressing smoothly, how is vernior/RCS thruster development going for Starship? Still methane-based? Nitrogen, hydrazine, or something new?
>
Elon Musk @elonmusk
N2 for vacuum. Aero surfaces & high gimbal angle main engines for atmosphere.

Aiming for 150 tons useful load in fully reusable configuration, but should be at least 100 tons, allowing for mass growth

Makes no sense. In order to grow the colony, youd have to transport vast amounts of mass from planets/moons/asteroids. Would be like trying to build the USA in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!

What might the interior of the Starship be like. Will there be separate rooms for each passenger? Like I guess it needs to be attractive for paying customers on board.
