The Starship Mk 1 orbital test vehicle is being stacked, with the nose cone (background) still to be lifted into place. This with the nose cone would be the cargo/passenger section on an operational vehicle, roughly the upper 35%±. The propulsion/fin-landing gear section is under construction.

Most of the stainless steel still has a protective coating, so shiny isn't everywhere yet.

This upper stage can sport up to 7 Raptor engines with at least 13.9 MN (3,100,000 lbf) of thrust, about 34% more than Russia's Proton launcher.

            Here we go...

            StarHopper

County approves another round of SpaceX road closures

SpaceX is preparing for a second round of testing at its Boca Chica Beach Launch Site.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. announced Tuesday that he has ordered the temporary closure of State Highway 4 from Oklahoma Avenue to Boca Chica Beach.

The closure is scheduled for May 28 between 2 and 10 p.m. or in the alternative, on May 29 and/or May 30, according to a press release.

The first round of SpaceX testing at Boca Chica Beach spanned a three-week closure during March where State Highway 4 experienced multiple closures while SpaceX tested its Starship Hopper prototype.

Those tests concluded in early April when SpaceX fired up the Starship Hopper's Raptor engine and successfully completed a short "hop."

News story about the Cocoa, Florida Starship build site. Flights are most likely from a new pad co-sited at LC-39A.

The Raptor full-flow staged combustion methane engine has entered production.

Turbopump propellant flow path to achieve high chamber pressure is quite tricky. Requires an inducer & 2 impellers with ~100,000 shaft horsepower.

Makes no sense. In order to grow the colony, youd have to transport vast amounts of mass from planets/moons/asteroids. Would be like trying to build the USA in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!
