  • Passengers (2016: Sony-Columbia)

"Passengers" has been on the Hollywood Black List (most wanted scripts) since it's outline was passed around about 2007. Sony won the bidding war in 2014. A long teaser was shown at Cinema-Con, which generated a lot of buzz both for the stars chemistry (ahem) and the special effects.

    Genre: Sci-Fi/romantic adventure

Release: December 21, 2016 (Christmas tentpole)

    Studios: Sony-Columbia, Village Roadshow Pictures

    Budget: $150m

Director: Morten Tyldum (in Norway: Buddy, Fallen Angels, Headhunters)

Writer: Jon Spaihts (Disney: The Black Hole reboot. Marvel: Dr. Strange. Universal: The Mummy reboot)

    Jim Preston: Chris Pratt

    Aurora Dunn: Jennifer Lawrence

    Arthur: Michael Sheen

    Gus Mancuso: Laurence Fishburne

    Celeste: Aurora Perrineau

Synopsis: Set in the future, "Passengers" centers on Jim Preston, a mechanic on a 120-year journey to a distant colonized planet in another galaxy, who becomes the first traveler to experience pod hibernation failure. Having woken up 100 years too soon, he is stranded in the world of an interstellar spaceship with only robots and androids for companionship. A year into his journey, he decides to wake up a fellow passenger, a beautiful journalist named Aurora. They fall in love but must soon deal not only with the revelation of Jim's misjudged act of waking her but a major malfunction of the ship itself.

Wasn't there a movie with similar setting (only a darker one)?
