    Speaking of time flies,

as you all know, this version of vb is somewhat dated, and with that, the happy wonderful issues of spam, bots, oh would you like to buy wow gold, calais is better then viagra, but I can sell both to you really cheaply....

License wise, I am free to use vbb for as long as I want, but at most I only get the OMG security updates, and vbb's new licensing scheme is clearly aimed at jelsoft purchasing multiple private islands in the Caribbean

I'm looking at transferring to a free/libre forum system. this isn't anything I will be doing in the next 48 hours, I have a country to move to.

    Any preferences, suggestions?

We could write our own. "We" being one of us with the know-how and time. So...

Alrighty then, here's a quick list of the ones I know of:
    • YaBB
    • phpBB
    • Phorum

I haven't kept up with their features or how they compare to vB, so no clue if they're any good.

If you find one you like and want to make it "MURC", let me know and I'm sure I can find some "free" time to whip up some graphics and CSS.

        oh good god, not Drupal

I've just managed to put down one monster chunk of code with its own sentience, and at least that one wasn't clearly malevolent

heh, and Jesse, I know that 'free' time thing, though unusually while here in Korea, I have actually had some, thats ending soon enough though, twitter has those details

Oops... Sorry... I just heard some good things about it (for websites) and thought I'd mention it just to get a list as complete as possible to choose from...

phpBB is a good LAMP forum app. I have used them in the past and liked it. It's very close to vbb without the astronimcal price tag. They have converters to go from vbb to phpBB too. Since there is no front page anymore it should be a pretty seamless transition.

vBulletin 4 is $195 - indefinite license, and it worth.

If users are really interested to keep this forum alive they can donate few bucks. Then we can buy new vB together.

I personally hate phpBB. "old" vB 3.x may be better than latest phpBB.

I had one of those infinite licenses, that now seems to be null and void...

vBB and jelsoft are not my favorite company at the moment

Is the 10 question quiz to find a forum (center bottom in the green area) of any use?
