• A Good Recomendation for a SCSI DVD Drive.

I'm looking at building a new computer, and seriously looking to go down the SCSI route.
Can anyone recommend a nippy, ie. >2x SCSI DVD drive, I'll be running it off an Adaptec 2940U2W and onto a G400 Max. (when I can get my hands on one).

ideal points.
low CPU utilisation,
quiet,
Cool running, I have enough Heat problems as it is.

IF you can help, please do.

Thanks,

Colin.
You wanna piece of me? here, *crunch*, o.k. not _that_ bit.

I have the Pioneer 6X DVD-303S SCSI drive and I believe it is not huge heat generator nor is it a huge CPU hog. Runs just fine on my sys. (see spec below). Of course, all my HDs are in external enclosures (great SCSI feature, ). So, no heat from HDs.

The link to the Pioneer page is..

Digital Connection has the Pioneer 6x SCSI for $139. (I bought it for $200! when it first came out. )

The link to the catalog page at Digital Connection containing the Pioneer drive is..

Good luck!

Plextor has a SCSI DVD drive in development. They say on their website it should be out by the end of the year. I have had such good luck with Plextor that I don't think Id ever get another CD- or DVD-ROM. They are just too good. That Kenwood SCSI CD-ROM sounds pretty awesome, but how on Earth do you use all that speed?? I will take fast and reliable every time.

Kind Regards,

KvH
