Well the "projected" PS3 price has come down. Most sites are pointing out that there is NO official confirmation on price, but the "guesses" have gone from $499 to $469 to $399.

Initially, XBOX was hurt by the fact that it debuted higher than the PS2 and a LOT higher than the Gamecube. Sony won't make the same mistake. The consumer has spoken, and nobody is buying pricey media appliances.

Besides, I think the PS3 will retail for 349$.

Yes, I should have made that clear. This is a "USA Street Price" sort of thing, I realize that those of y'all in the EU get charged a much higher price, especially when VAT is taken into consideration.

As for the PS3 retailing at $349... we'll see. I still predict $299.

From what I understood, the PS3 is really expensive to produce. They'll probably cut some features, but I remember reading somewhere (so much for accuracy) that the cost of the chips would already run it in the 400$.

299$ would have them loose 100+the price of accessories (plastics, controllers, assembly and whatnot) + shipping + + + +.

Unless they really cut on the features they'll lose a lot on the PS3. 299 SHOULD be the target price, but they're already expecting the XBOX to steal the US market while themselves retaining EU and Japan. That MIGHT indicate they won't reach the 299 mark. (again it's all speculation)

As far as I'm concerned, if the PS3 is really cool, I might jump to a 349 price, but not for 399. That's me only though, I can't speak for the millions others.
