  • Anyone using 64 bit Windows?

My Shiny New Athlon 64 arrived today.

Do I stick with trusty XP SP2 or download the latest 450MB iso from MS and risk the perils of beta releases?

    TIA.

Please, please, don't say use something else!

Beta...this is after all a PC power-user forum, not some kind of knitting circle. Be a true man-geek and go for it!

I tried with my Dad's laptop, but there was absolutely zero driver support for it, so I scrapped it and went to normal 32-bit XP.

The dual boot idea is good. Lets you plug in 64-bit drivers as they become available and see how system performance compares.

I rather like the 64 bit beta, except for a few limitations:

                      No soundcard drivers
(MAudio beta drivers work on Revo in Kernel Streaming mode only with Foobar2000)

                      No Printer drivers

                      No snanner drivers

                      Divx bug

I use it on dual-boot on my primary workstation

Beta driver for my Sound Blaster card, nVidia is kind enough to provide drivers both for my nForce chipset and GeForce GPU...

Does Matrox offer any beta-drivers for Parhelia...? Of course not

                        Overall I'm satisfied

So do they have beta drivers for the Audigy line? I have a Audigy 2 Platinum that I'd like to use when I eventually upgrade to an A64. Though I think for the most part I'll be running linux, I may need windows installed for some reason or another....

yeah check you driver compatabilty, unless you have an nivida card I would probably stick with 32bit windows.

But 64bit linux is a whole bunch of good stuff that would be your best possible choice

I think I'll dual boot, just for the fun of it.
You'd think all the mobo drivers would be available in both flavours (!) which only really leaves the 9800XT....
