Here's the TRUTH behind Parhelia :

    Hi Stefan,
Unfortunately hardware displacement mapping can only be exposed through
DX9 and there are no plans for a DX9 driver for Parhelia yet,
    Regards,

    Subject: HWDM SDK ?

Is there a HardWareDisplacementMapping SDK out ? HAIG or what his name
on matrox forums told me so.. and i really need it, since you dont
expose your feutures via the DX9 standard way..

    /stefan
You see, displacement mapping Matrox claimed the Parhelia supported was a lie.

Worse, no DX9 driver. Any serious person who wants to play games should avoid the parhelia at all cost : newer games will require DX9 driver support. Heck, even the old Geforce2 has DX9 drivers.

Of course you could actually read the whole thread over at matrox forums.

Yes, HAIG for president, although I hope to actually see some DX9 drivers some day...

I can't believe this. Instead of getting so excited over Haig, reread what Omar Yehia from Developer Relations had to say : "there are no plans for a DX9 driver for Parhelia "

                Omar for President!

You are forgeting one small but very important word of this e-mail: yet !

I'm pretty sure that Matrox will give us DX9 drivers eventually.

I'm sure there will be DX9 drivers within a reasonable amount of time now that DX9 games are starting to pop up. There really hasn't been much need until now.

DX9 performance will be severly lacking anyway so that's why they are not in a rush i think.
PS. Haig for President! Soupy for Vice, how about it?

I do believe that Tron 2.0 requires DX9, but it still plays on the Parhelia (I just wish it would work in surround gaming... Lousy gits.)

Of course, there is a difference between requiring DX9 and requiring a DX9 card.

There's got to be room for R0Mar there as well - perhaps as chairman so he has a nice surround view of the board... (groan!)
