  • Turok 2

    Hi, people!

When playing Turok 2 v. 1.04, the frame rates are very inconsistent at 800x600 - sometimes it´s unplayable, sometimes it´s smooth.
I´ve tried changing the graphics options, resolutions and color depths, but the only thing that fixes the problem (makes the frame rate consistent) is playing at 640x480 or lower (at 32-bit).

    Does this happen to you?

nope runs fine over here ... ~43 fps in the timedemo @ 1280x1024x32bpp without any hickups.

Your problem copuld be related to your windows swapfile. If you let it be controlled by windows, you will experiences stalls every once in a while.

Better defrag oe of your non-system partions and after that set your swapfile manually to a fixed amount (256MB - 256MB in my case). Then after rebbot your system will create one big swapfile the will reside in one piece on your hardware and is not spattered all over your HD.

My motherboard is Intel manufactured Atlanta LX 440(darn expensive)with the latest BIOS (which supports 333Mhz PentiumII and 433Mhz Celeron processors).

I did some more experimenting with 800x600 16-bit without mipmapping (no trilinear filtering), normal detail, and it´s the same (or slower) than 640x480 32-bit with maximum detail and mipmapping (trilinear filtering). The gameplay is smooth with these two settings.

This is not a problem, it´s just that I´m used to play at 800x600 32-bit and flying...
My AGP aperture size is set at 64Mb.
I don´t have this problem with any other games.

Oh, I guess it´s just my G200 getting outdated and I don´t have the heart to admit it...

        Hi, Maggi.

I already have a 200 Mb permanent swap file, and Cacheman 3.70 installed. I run Norton Speed Disk regularly. I have a surprisingly fast and light system "windows-wise" comparing to others that I know.
I´m almost certain that this is not the problem. Also, the hard disk is not working when the slowdowns occur.
TurokI flies on my system. Does Turok 2 have the same graphics engine? Is this a G200 memory limitation, in spite of AGP being enabled?

I don't know your Mobo, but probably it needs an update of its AGP and/or Busmastering drivers.

Also have a look into your Mobo-Bios and tell me what the Graphics Aperture Size is set to.
