  • Unreal - No detailed textures w/ G200?

When I first played the game with my Voodoo1 I was impressed with the detailed textures on places like the wall and floors when you go up close (you can see all the little scratches and holes, etc.). But when I switched to my G200, all those nice detailed textures were no more (textures are just blurry). I thought that that feature was perhaps native only to Glide and was just not implemented in the Direct3D code yet. But when I recently ran Unreal on my friend's PC with the TNT2 under D3D, all those detailed textures were there.
I have all the setting set to max with all the bells and whistles turned on (including the 'UseDetailTextures'). My question is, does anyone know how to enable that feature or at least know why it is not enabled on the G200's?

Check the advanced config ... there you'll find a couple of switches.

Hmm, the G200 cards supposedly have very good D3D drivers so I can't see why that feature is not enabled while it is on the TNT. Obviously it IS implemented in D3D (btw Markus, I did go under the advanced options and everything is enabled). Has anybody been able to get it to work on a G200 board? How about you guys with the G400's?

Sorry, no clue at hand ...

Also I didn't mean the D3D adv. options only.

There are quite a few general adv. options to consider, for example the cache size that is defaulted to 4MB ... maybe there's a relation ...

            Hey Grant,

Actually, all my video and bios drivers are up do date (including Unreal 225f.). I don't really have a problem with the performance of my G200 (it's no TNT2 or Voodoo3, but I'm still satisfied).

The problem that I'm trying to resolve is the detailed textures on the walls/floors that are not present on the G200 (you only see them when you're up close to the walls or staring down at the floor). I'm sure that those of you who have a Voodoo card or a TNT (not sure about any other cards cuz I haven't personally seen them in action) know what I'm talking about. With the G200, the textures are blurry when up close, while the Voodoo/TNT cards have extremely high detailed textures.

I took a couple of screen shots in Unreal, one with my Pure3D (Voodoo 1) and the other with my G200. Both cards had all the visual setting in Unreal turned to the max. If you don't know what I've been talking about all this time (or even if you do), then check these screen shots out. You will see what a huge difference there is. I took these shots standing up all the way against the wall on the same spot both times.

                Hi Aweman

                I have a g200 and use Unreal 225f.
My g200 is still at bios 1.6 and driver 4.51

It runs real well, great color and detail.
The fps are a little slow when in a major encounter with mutiple enemies.
                I run at 1024x860 in 32bit.

The game is just beautiful, not being a great first person shooter, I just enjoy wandering around and looking at all of the awesome graphics and animations!

                My suggestions:
                Update to 225f
                Start game in safe mode.
                Go to advanced options.
                set rendering to D3D.
Go to D3D rendering and set all options to true
                EXCEPT for volumetric lighting
                turn this OFF.

                This should run great!!

                  Hey Aweman
Sorry I answered the wrong question.
I went back to Unreal and checked, you are correct the textures do get real fuzzy upclose. Although they are real great most of the time!!!

I went through all of the advanced menu options to find some setting that would help.
But alas could not find anything???

                  Grant

If you're curious, the detail textures work just fine on a G400.
