A lot of what you ask is subjective. the crusher and massive demo files have instructions as to how to complete timedemo's - but they leave sound ON by default.

    <a href="http://www.ve3d.net/3Fingers/files/crusher.zip">Crusher1</a>

or pop along to <a href="http://www.ve3d.net/3Fingers/">3 fingers</a> site and read all about it there.

Here is the test I use which I think is more or less the standard. I don't over-clock or tweak for the test.

            Video Setup:
            [3dfx openGL]
            full screen
            Texture Quality: ->max.
            8 bit texture: no
            (No Tweaks)
            (vsynch on)

            Test Used:
            At game start:
            ~
            s_initsound 0 [Enter]
            snd_restart [Enter]
            timedemo 1 [Enter]
            demomap demo1.dm2 [Enter]

            5.13 drivers (Final ICD)
            [default openGL]

            demo1.dm2

            (42.0 @ 640x480)
            (30.1 @ 800x600)
            (19.1 @ 1024x768)

            timerefresh

            (60.6 @ 640x480)
            (41.1 @ 800x600)
            (24.6 @1024x768)

            Happy trails,

                Arbymo:

I don't know the reason for disabling sound for the so-called standard test. Could be there might be differences between using PCI or ISA or no (USB) soundcards.
I wouldn't put too much stock in the results of Q2 tests. All it can tell you is if you are in the "ball-park" with similar machines. Too many don't publish the exact test they used along with their Q2 set up and many have tweaked/oc'd something without saying so or just plain lie

                Happy trails,

Fleabus . ur probably right ..
some people do tweaked tests just to show that some systems are better than others ..
Phil .. thanx for that site again ..
i got alot of info form there .. besides that autoexec creator from tweak3d ..
                  quake2 never looked better b4 ..
                  time for some KILLING
