• IT'S HERE!

Well, just got my Prophet 4500 in the mail. I can't test it yet, but initial things to note:

1. It's blue. The board is blue, the heatsink is blue, everything is blue.

2. It has an orb on it. Probably, in keeping with #1, a blue orb, although it's been relabeled. But definitely a kickass hs/fan.

3. Comes with the full retail version of Myst3 Exile, sans box. No relabeled garbage which is nice. Full manual too.

4. One driver CD - a rarity nowadays.

- Gurm

P.S. Yes, I will be taking pictures as soon as I get it home.

You´ve got it from Hercules, so it´s the retail version, right?

Does it have 5ns memory chips??

Waiting for overclock results...

So Gurm, are you at all excited?

Yes, I'm excited, dammit!

Retail box, yes. Although mine doesn't have a DVI header, and I could've sworn they said it would... well I'm not sending it back YET!

The chips are Samsung 112's and 115's, 4 of each (the ones on the front are 115's and the ones on the back are 112's, whatever that means) with numbers as follows:

K4S643232E-TC50

I'm thinking 5ns. Anyway, it's clocked at 175/175 right now. Does Powerstrip already support these (I haven't used it in years)? If not, we'll be waiting anxiously for a utility. Hehe.

- Gurm

P.S. Anyone know any Kyro or Kyro2 sites I can go check out for info, reference drivers, utilities, etc.?

Gurm - besides the 2D quality please do not forget to drop a few words about the loudness of the Kyro`s fan.

Thanks

Gurm - and yes you have 5.0 ns chips. The RAM should be good to go up to 200 MHz. If the chip can handle this speed is fortune.

Don`t forget to clock the chip/RAM always equal as the Kyro doesn`t like asyncronous settings.

That´s 5 ns alright. I´m waiting for the OEM version, there are contradicting reports about OEM´s having 5.5 ns memory. But I´ve seen a report of someone who actually got a OEM and he says it´s also 5 ns...

Latest powerstrip 3.0 build should support Kyro II.
You could also try http://www.mitrax.de/files/kclk.exeor Kyro tools - http://pvr.gamestats.com/Dynamic/Sta...ools/kyrotools

I´m not sure if the latest supports kyro II, but it should have a lots of advanced tweaking registry settings.

PS: well well, I see someone have the sam ideas while I was searching for the links

Nuno,
I think the reason that we're turning to the KyroII is that, according to all the previews, it fulfills our basic spoilt-by-matrox needs. To wit:

1. Roughly GeForce2/Radeon speeds.
2. Good Win2k compatibility.
3. Decent 2D image quality.

The Radeon fulfills 1 & 3, the GeFarce fulfills 1 & 2. The KyroII seems to (according to everything we've heard) fulfill all 3. And is the only card currently on the market to do so.
[just to keep it all in one topic]

100% agree
Actually I was totally surprised when I started to see win2k Kyro bechmarks and realized they´re equal to win9x...

In terms of win2k funcionality, I´m not sure if Kyro can handle monitor customizations as well as Matrox powerdesk - as to get 60hz refresh rate in all d3d and opengl apps

I *think* powerstrip 3.0 can do the trick. At least it does so with monitor customizations disabled in G400 powerdesk. You can tweak all the settings you want (like in powerdesk) and the custom settings for each res will stick in d3d and OpenGl. You just have to save the settings and have PS to start with windows.

Well it'll be a few hours folks.

Gotta go home (2.5 more hours 'til quittin' time), plug it in, reinstall Win2k, take a break for the season finale of 'Friends', and then test and report.

I figure I can skip the season finales of 'Charmed' and 'ER'... and they'll keep Julie nicely tied up...

Seems there's a lot of buzz on the forums lately about the Kyro boards. Be sure to test the drivers (how do they compare to Powerdesk?), the usual benchmarks (blah), 2D quality, Win2K driver quality, and the quality of the OGL ICD (e.g. any texture corruption).
