  • Disk Cache ?

I did a few tests with the various sizes of disk cache as I was trying to set it.. I did notice a few odd things.

Here are two seperate JPG's of Cacheman 4.1 with a 96MB disk cache allotment. The screen shots are an hour apart (Without rebooting) And the only programs opened are as follows :

    From Boot : http://geektechspot.webjump.com/diskcacheboot.jpg
Mcafee VShield + Webscan + VSStat.
    MS Intellipoint
Starter.exe (Soundpanel for SB PCI 128)
Webshots Desktop (My fiancee insisted on this)
    Keyboard Hot Key Program

    After an Hour : http://geektechspot.webjump.com/diskcache.jpg

Above plus at various times have run
    MIRC Client
    IE 5.5
    MS PhotoEditor
    ICQ
    G@H client .98
    and that is about it.

    Here are some quick observations

    1) Once the Disk Cache fills it doesn't empty or even lessen? (Even though I was led to believe it was dynamic)

    2) From a cold boot 55MB of Disk Cache is used up (if you let it use that much)

    3) As far as I can tell there is no limitation to how much Disk Cache you can use and the apparent effectiveness of different sizes up to 128MB

No real questions as I am persuing the matter but if anyone has any comments or actual information, feel free to put it in the thread

Most of your questions is covered in the helpfile and on the authors homepage.

Win9X Diskcache subsystem is completly crazy

Anything over 20MB is a Waste of good RAM!

Yeah.. I was reading the helpfile documentation (over the years I have discovered that the helpfile is a useful source of information.. instead of asking really rudundant questions )

Lots of information.. and I am not quite sure what I am looking for.. but I will know what it is when if find it... (as the fantasy music from Final Fantasy 1 on the NES from when you beat the first little test quest and it shows you the credits plays in the background )
