  • Unwelcome restarts in Win2K

My dad just reported that his computer (win2k, 400mhz k6-2, 256 RAM, ASUS P5B mobo) restarts without any apperant reason while he is working in ms word.
anyone know why that might be and how to prevent it?

Running as an internet host (I presume with ICS) isn't too strenuous though

Just fire up some intensive apps and see if it happens then. It sometimes does happen erratically though, when opening a simple IE window, or when loading a mod in UT - but there is a feature in Win2k which does this to prevent overheating.

I have the same problem on an Athlon system although it only happens with Internet Explorer and only happens when I type in a new URL then hit enter, when I do BOOM systems reboots. Happens randomly but always the same thing, I've reinstalled Windows 2K several times but it still happens.

Could be overheating, is he doing anything strenuous? Does it only happen with Word?

guess i have to see if the cpu-fan still works, as far as i know it only happens with word, and it never happened to me, not while i was on the computer myself and not when it runs for hours as the internet host.
