  • anyone made thier Pioneer DVD 114 region free???

I have a Pioneer DVD 114 tray (vers 1.10 firmware) and was wondering if anyone has successfully made this drive unlocked and regionfree?? I am getting DVDs from overseas and have seen a few web sites purporting to have firmware flashes that make the drive region free:

    ie.

    http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/V...IONDVDROM.html

So before I do the flash; has anyone had success/failures doing this technique?

    regards

    bongo

ps...why the !@#$!#@! does Pioneer make their DVDs locked anyways; prohibiting owners of the drive from playing DVDs from other regions in the world...aarghh

You can try these guys I guess. They http://www.7thzone.com/cgi-bin/categ...oads.cgi?id=76

They used to be really cool when they were just www.dvdutils.com. Looks like VC got them, and now they have a login. Ick. But they do (at least did) have everything you need for DVD use.

Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I believe I have the firmware files you are refering to. I haven't tested them out myself, unfortunately. You can email me at luke@netci.com if you are interested in the firmware upgrade.

I just noticed the website you refer to has the older firmware upgrades. The version I have is 2.06. All the firmware listed on the website you listed are older versions.
