  • Converting win98 se to acpi

Can this be as simple as changing the driver under device manager or would the os throw a complete wobbler?

    IIRC

    1. Safe mode

    2. Remove everything from device manager

    3. "Add hardware" - (standard system devices) - "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)"

Remember to enable in BIOS and have drivers handy.

Disclaimer: YMMV, and if you fuXX0r your machine I'll just delete my post and you can't prove anything

Ofcourse I have to delete my post then as well , but before we do the dual-deletion, Kim, what the heck does IIRC and YMMV stand for?

TP, I just updated my BIOS, didn't have a setting to set ACPI on or off, but I threw on my OS PnP to Yes, booted normally, letting Windows find a load of ahum, rebooted, set OS PnP to No, booted into safe mode, took out all doubles, rebooted and let Windows find some more stuff.

You must be pulling my leg
I picked those up on this same board and AFAIK they are used a lot.

IIRC stands for If I Remember Correctly, IIRC that is.

YMMV stands for Your Mileage May Vary

        Kim

Edit: Looked ridiculous with italics, so I tried bolds instead.

Actually there is an easier way.. there is one registry key that you can change to alter the ACPI mode for 98SE..
              I _think_ the key is:
              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\CONFIGMG\PnPBus
If you change the ACPI entry to 01 instead of 00 it may enable it. I'll try to verify that.

You can also delete the following key (it has a bunch of sub-branches in it.. they gotta go too) and then enable ACPI, and it'll redetect all of your hardware:
              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum

As always, backup your registry before fooling with it.

It's okay it's running on a via shitset with the 686 bug. So it doesn't take much to **** it up.
Out of interest is there a way to find where the irq's really are under acpi if the bios diagnostic screen doesn't show them.
