  • Converting an iPAQ's Serial Cradle to USB

    Dunno if this is of any use to anyone here, but I've managed to convert my Serial cradle for my Compaq iPAQ to USB. I've copied a post to a Brighthand's ( www.brighthand.com ) forum:

    Hi all,

    I followed the Brighthand's article's instructions on converting the Serial cradle to USB and couldn't get it working at all. Then I found the compaq's detailed specs on their site and after looking at the pin outs of the 12 pin cradle connector and the USB cable, I found that on my cradle, the pin connections were different to what the article on this site said. Working out what pin went where, I found that on the cradle's connector's circuit board, there were the exact connectors for the USB cable - much easier than soldering to the pins on the back of the connector.

    Look in this photo:

    Now, see the holes in the cirucit board, labelled H1 to H6 - that's where you solder the USB's cables to.

    White -> H5
    Green -> H6
    Red -> H2
    Black -> H3

    And it worked first time!

    PS: I bought my iPAQ last week at a Dixon's at lakeside here in the UK.
