  • Coppermine on Asus P2B-L ?

What do you get when you combine an
    Asus P2B-L motherboard (PCB v1.02),
an Asus S370-DL CPU card (@1.80 volts)
    and a PIII850 ? According to Asus..nothing,
since my motherboard revision doesn't meet
    the minimum specifications.

    Here's what I really got!

p.s. A big Thank-You to Maggi for the how-to on this one!

I recently successfully launched a P!!!/850 in my P2B-S R1.03 via an Abit SlotKET !!!. Still finishing up with my taxes and then I'll yank the processor, attach the thermistor, and try for the 112MHz FSB.

What processor did you upgrade from? I upgraded from a P!!!/450. I haven't really noticed any difference in overall system performance but I haven't tried anything really CPU intensive, like multimedia file format conversion. The extra processing power does let me push Q3A a little harder, which is the main reason I went for the upgrade.

        xortam,

        I went from a PIII 616
        (5.5 x 112MHZ @ 550MHz) to the 850....

p.s. For some reason, I had difficulty
        wih D3D stuff (UT,3D Mark2000/2001),
but NO trouble with OpenGL (QII, QIII).
(I didn't play with the voltage or extra
        cooling at all yet.)
I didn't notice much difference in
        QIII demo001..at 1024x768x32 High Quality,
I got 31.0 fps with either CPUs.
At Fastest, however, I wnet from 67fps
        to 77fps..a 15% increase!
        Have fun!

I have a P2B-LS R1.02 and was bummed when I read that I couldn't upgrade past PIII-600 on the Asus site and forums. Now I am a little excited. Where did you find the procedure?

I'm not interested in overclocking, but would love to upgrade as much as possible. I may just upgrade this summer to a completely new system, but it's nice to know that there are options.
