  • Hurrah for Microsoft!

They've done something new and (I think) innovative and I like it!

Windows XP - install on a notebook and turn on ClearType. I've seen it on WinCE machines but on my Sony Vaio notebook, it makes the screen look like it's a CRT!

If you don't know what it does: Microsoft have found a way of antialiasing LCD panels by powering neighbouring pixels at different levels, and so instead of the jagged look of a LCD screen where you can see each individual pixel, they're 'blurred' so that it's smooth like on a CRT.

Some people probably don't like that, but on my 1024x768 screen it makes it look soo much better!

    Cheers,
    Steve

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow? But why put off until tomorrow what you can put off altogether?

Yeah, its subpixel control. Basically, each pixel is made of a red, green, and blue subpixel. With LCDs, you usually have control of the subpixels directly, so you can do strange things like alter the contrast of sections of the screen, or make it appear that the pixels are 'half lit'.

They're basically using sub-pixel interlopation. Kinda cool.
