  • So, how does the G450 compare to, say, the Voodoo3?

    Topic says it all methinks

The reason I'm asking is I have a friend who loves me giving him a shot of DualHead - and now he wants some for himself! The G450 LE is what's in his range, but he doesn't want to spend £75 and get no FPS boost over his Voodoo 3 3000. I guessed that they'd be about the same - what about you guys?

I think this still counts as GHW, and not Benchmarks

    Paul.

Um.. actaully the G450 will probably be slower than that V3 3000 card. The G450 is slower than a G400MAX, and even the G400 in some things.

I would think that the G450 would be a tad slower than the Voodoo.

Damn, rylan you just beat me here

Well, you's were both pretty fast

But I was thinking that a standard G400 would be slightly faster than the 3000, so G450 about the same speed.

Oh well, I guess I'll not be promoting Matrox to this chap then

Isn´t the LE version a 64bit SDR version? If so, it´ll be MUCH slower than a V3 or even a G400...

The V3 3000 is actually a better product if you're not looking for DualHead capabilities. Dualhead and/or TV-out rocks on the G450, but that's about it. I can get 45fps with my(now in my bro's machine) V3 3000 running Quake3 Arena @ 1024x768x16, and strangely enough, 512x512 textures with the WickedGL driver. The 22-bit post filter also works, for it greatly reduces(still there) banding artifacts with the game and makes it hardly noticeable unless you stick your head on the moniter. For G450, even with that setting and the texture slider down one step, I got 26fps(with some fiddling around with the registry since I only got 21fps at the first stage) which is a very BAD score.

Well, that's really what you expect with the G450. Lower gaming performance then the G400 pure, but better DualHead capability with the BEST 2D then any other.

                Sigh..
Guess I'd need to play less games nowadays!

Since the V3 is just a V2 with a 2D core built-in, guess I'd try to get a V2 SLI setup when I visit Canada the week after the next. No wait. Canadians, how often do you see V2(or Voodoo2) OEM/retail products on store shelves? For how much?

Sorry man.. unless you locate it in the papers classifieds its really hard to get any voodoo 2 card. It took almost 3 days for me to find one for a client at the computer store... (Found a few eights but he wanted a 12 megger).. LOL
