I thought I'd start a new thread so hopefully the two current ones (My athlon one and Pace's PIII 800E one) can be one more general cooling thread...
Right. I've been playing again with heatsinks n stuff. We managed to get some SuperOrbs and some arctic silver in.
The following shows what I've found with my 1Gig T'bird running at 11x100 = 1100Mhz. Voltage at 1.85V.
<table>
<tr><td>Heatsink</td><td>Temp Idle</td><td>Temp under load</td></tr>
<tr><td>Coolermaster 'copper pipe' heatsink with the pad that comes with it</td><td>~48'C</td><td>~52'C</td></tr>
<tr><td>Coolermaster 'copper pipe' heatsink with the pad removed and copper base cleaned and normal heatsink compound used</td><td>~46'C</td><td>~48'C</td></tr>
<tr><td>Coolermaster 'copper pipe' heatsink with the pad removed and copper base cleaned and arctic silver used</td><td>~44'C</td><td>~46'C</td></tr>
<tr><td>SuperOrb heatsink with the arctic silver heatsink compound</td><td>~42'C</td><td>~43'C</td></tr>
</table>
I can even now overclock to 11x110=1210Mhz and I can't get the CPU temp to go over 44'C with the arctic silver and the SuperOrb!! (Although my 3dmark score drops by around 10%!! ) CPU and Multimedia benches in Sisoft's Sandra 2001 increase, but memory speed decreases quite a bit (I had to go down to 110Mhz and CAS 3 instead of 133Mhz CAS 2 when I'm at normal 100Mhz Bus speed.)
That's all I had time to test over lunch. I'm going to give 12x100 a go instead later tonight to see if that helps so I can keep my RAM at the higher speed.
Any comments?
