  • Windows Media Player and Win ME

Well any time I try to use the WMP 7.0 in WinME, it locks my PC up cold. Anyone else run into this problem? Its just started this today and I haven't done anything new software wise to the computer. I'm gonna try to Download the IE 5.5 SP1 update to see if that helps anything.

    Hi Scott,

2 things I can think of:

    1. Overclocking!
    2. Upgrade from Win98?

Well I played around with it a little bit more during the evening and found out that it takes a good 10-15 seconds for the WMP to start working. Any ideas why it takes so long to start up?

          Hi GT98
On my system (P-3@450 ,i440zx,64 MB SDRAM, 4.3 GB ATA33 Samsung HDD,Creative Ensoniq Audio PCI 64 etc.)with Win Me,MP7 takes atmost 3-4 sec to start up. Maybe you can try defragging your drive (it helped in my case) Also,if you start it while you are connected to the net, then it will by default open up in Media guide and start downloading MSN's guide or something, thus taking more time.
          Cheers

WMP 7.0 is just a bloated version of WMP 6.4 which works great. But since you are using Win Me ( Like Me ) then your stuck with WMP 7.0 and it does take longer to start up than the previous version did.
