  • A7V and memory problem, advice needed

Here's my problem, I just add a new 64meg of crucial PC133 to my 128 meg of Pc133 crucial.

It seems that I cant get those 2 stick to work togewther at 133 Mhz, used individually they work well at 133, but together, I only get registry error in Win98. If I use them together at 100 Mhz, no problem at all.

I've used Bios 1004c and 1004d, no change,
I've disabled diim interleave.. no change.
tried cas2 or cas3... no change.

    Any advice ?

    thanks

Sorry for bad news. I have A7V and I try 128+64 or 256+128 or 256+64 (256 I lend from friend) and I never can start at 133Mhz (and memory modules are from the same company!) 8-( Only when I use 128+128 or 64+64 (I dont have 2x256) 8-(

Why not call Crucial, they should tell you what the problem is or at least know about it.

Interesting sounds like you need to match the magabytes. What does the motherbaord manual say. Have you tried an bios update.

          Odd,
          Have 1 stick of 128 megs(PNY infineon)and 1 stick of the same 64 megs.
          Asus A7V mobo.
          pci 100@133 no problems.
Do both sticks have the same chips?
Is the 128meg stick in slot 0\1?
          64 meg.in slot 2?

could it be the memory types. There are the double bank , and single bank types(or something like that).

maybe you can't have two double banked dimms.

things to try are putting the ram in dimm slots 1 and 3. instead of 1 and 2.

have you any means of bumping up the Vio slightly?, or backing of your ram timmings?

better still sell the 64 and get another 128

tx for advice, i'll check with Crucial.
Yes I've tried all the BIOS to no avail.
Probably a double bank vs singlebank thing...

Well. fimally , considering how low the ram prices are now, I've returned my 64 meg for a 128 meg stick identical to the one I had before, and Surprise !!! They work together flawlessly at 133 Mhz.
So it seems A7V doen't like unidentical memory...
