  • win2k and mapped drives

Yes this is normal for Win2k. Is caches the user name and password, then dissconnecs the drive. The theory behind it is that it reduces network traffic. When you have a mapped drive, your computer hast to query the server (or where ever the drive is stored) and tell it that you are still connected.

So if there are a lot of people with mapped drives, which is the norm in corporate US, that make a lot of network traffic. So Win2k drops the connection, but once you click on it again it will automatically reconnect you using the cached info.

Is there anyway of stopping this. Caching is disabled at the mapping end as it is.

Is this correct behavour. If you don't use the drives for a while they become disconnected. Double clicking restores the connection after a few seconds.
