  • Is now the time?

Ive resisted using liveware drivers on my Win2k system because of the general canning the combination has recieved on various news groups etc.

Has anything changed with DirectX 8? Are all the lumpy bits sorted out now or should i stick with the generic windows drivers?

    Cheers,
    Giskard.

I have used just about every W2k driver which got leaked or released by Creative and all were better for me than the Basic driver which came with W2k.

Of course that's heavily influenced by the fact that LiveWare 2000 was the first release which made the headphone output on the Live! Drive work.

Not that there aren't plenty of issues yet to be fixed. AC3 pass-through support for one. Then or first of all the sound glitches found in just about every single game out there. Made worse significantly on SMP systems like mine.

On my single CPU machine (ABIT BE6) there is a silly error message still remaining which has been there ever since LW2000. Every time on shutdown I get an error saying "devldr32 failed to start because the window station is shutting down." Anyway, the system shuts still down just fine without user intervention.
Never got this error on my primary machine.

By the way, are you a fan of Isaac Asimov's work?
