Anyone has Philips USB Speakers DSS 350?

    Anyone has Philips USB Speakers DSS 350?

    I connected them to 1 USB port of my mobo and installed the software that came with CD.

    The results are the following:
    - the sofware (a sort USB ports monitor) does not not see my speakers so I can regulate anything through it
    - I can hear wave files, CD songs, but not mid files (properties show that mid files are managed by a windows driver. There's no way to change it).

    If I connect USB speakers to my sound card (line in) everything works correctly, even if I do not take any advantage of USB support.

    In Philips site I found an utility for Intel chipsets and tried it without any improvement.

    Thanks in advance for any suggestion you might give.

    I'm not sure if you understand but USB speakers are ment for computers that don't have sound cards in them and they are totally software driven. This generally means that your robbing CPU cycles away from your games if play them and if you have any other USB devices it takes up alot of the bandwith that they need.

      I think I understood your answer.

      I believed that speakers (USB connected) and thsound could "live together". I will let speakers line-in connected.

          Howdy,
          I went through hell with the DSS 350 speakers-a very long story.
          The short of it is DO NOT install the software from the CD-it does not work and just screws up the ability to use USB and a sound card together. Philips eventually admitted this to me and blamed Microsoft for changing something in SE. Without the software, all you lose is the ability to make changes to the USB sound from the Philips icons in the sound tray. Unfortunately I had to reformat as my Soundblaster Live drivers had also become corrupted by the software. I did not have this problem with a Diamond Monster MX 300.
          Remember to reboot your system after changing to the USB system in multimedia properties AND also disable DBB and Incredible Sound before rebooting if you are changing back to your sound card from USB. Everything then works well together.
          USB does keep your CPU busy but with everything else except a SB LIVE (32 Bit), it sounds heaps better. Even compared to a SB Live, the trebles and vocals of USB are crisper and clearer.
          When I am gaming, I disable USB, and when in the mood for serious music, use USB.
