    logged in with Administrator rights?

    btw. DiskKeeper sucks!

Norton has just finished speeddisk, and it's MUCH better than diskkeeper

Anything Norton does not come within 100 yards of my system without being summarily destroyed due to years of frustration with their crappy crash causing code (CCCC)(tm).

The advanced version of DiskKeeper (not the included crippleware) is far superior, and allows for boot-level defragmentation of directories, page-files, etc... On-line, it will continuously work to prevent certain types of fragmentation.

Works great. Have used it for years.

First off, as dZues said, you need administrative rights to operate Diskkepper (which is what Win2k uses as it's built-in defrag program). They use the scaled down POS crapware version of diskeeper in Win2k, so I would suggest NOT using it.

Norton Speed Disk is an incredible program. I'm with Guyver on the rest of the Norton utils though, they stay off my computer. Except Ghost, but that doesn't count, it's not an OS util. I highly recommend Speed Disk.

I hear the full version of Diskeeper is good too, but I have never used it. I just know that Speed Disk works like a champ.

the reason ghost is good is because they bought a company just to get ghost. ghost was originaly made by binary research if i remember correctly.

Norton Utilities gets removed by win2k anyway since it ain't win2k compliant. Bar that apart from crash guard that causes crashes never had a problem with Nortons on win9x and I've got thousands pc's to work with. The version for Nt is so old now a dinosaur comes free with it.
Haven't tried the full version of diskeeper I'll have save the pennies. Anyway logon as admin as already suggested and give this a go.
Also if you use the built in backup don't as that sucks in a major way as well.

Microsoft technet doesn't list the problem. What file type is drive C by the way?
What happens when you run chkdsk?
How much room is there on drive C?

You can easily upgrade Diskeeper in Windows 2000 to the full version by installing the update from Executive Software. If anyone is interested I can tell ya how.....

I have 12 gigs of free space on my HD. Checkdisk runs fine(does a 4 stage check and reports nothing wrong). The file type on Disk C: is Local Drive(and of course is NTFS).
