  • Driver Installation Sequence?

Ok, think I'll find out the proper installation sequence this time before blindly guessing. I have downloaded the latest 6.01 drivers for my G400, also have the VIA 4.24 4-in-1 drivers, and the BIOS on my Tyan S2380 KX133 motherboard is the latest version (1.02A). If I should be using different VIA or Matrox drivers (I'm after total stability, not max performance), advice there would be appreciated!

I'll be using Windows98, which I know is installed first, but which is the proper sequence after that? This second time around I'll hold off on installing 98SE until later...

    Thanks!

    Aaron

Your best bet is to install the drivers after the system has configured itself, and is up and running. Just run the setup.exe and all should be well...If you have installed SP-1, do so again after installing the drivers (Probably not necessary, but until we get Microsofts firm word on the matter, it can't hurt).

As for Windows 98 and Windows 98SE...

DON'T install the drivers for the Matrox until EVERYTHING ELSE is working. If you are installing Win98SE as an upgrade to Win98, leave the Matrox drivers off until SE is installed.

It appears that WinMe has fixed some of the problems associated with proprietary drivers during upgrades. I successfully upgraded to WinMe from 98SE without having to supply drivers, and setup did not crash and burn like it did from 98 to 98SE with the Matrox drivers.

Take a look at this article on AMDZone. It's an installation guide for the EPoX 7KXA Motherboard, but the software installation principles are the same.
