    DataOrb,

hi, nice work on your MATROX logos!

first off, i can't find anything in the resource kit documentation on that resource/device. second thing is, is what is the file version of "update.sys"?? mine is 5.00.2195.22. i'm running sp1.

last thing...it could be that win2k is trying to configure some hardware monitoring firmware on your motherboard. have you recently turned off anything in your bios that had anything to do with hardware monitoring? have you recently flashed the bios??

worst case scenario is that some componet failed on your mobo, and it isn't detrimental to the overall operation of it.

Win98 does not show that error...
      Win2K says it's a "Code 19"... A
in the windows help file, what I get for code 19 is:
      Device Manager Error Code 19
Windows 2000 could not retrieve the device's information from the registry.
but this I don't understand as my registry is in top shape... I always clean it with Regclean...
could it be a BIOS issue? as my current BIOS is 1005, and there is a 1006 version avilable from Asus...
also, windows says that to fix this problem I should:
"...Click Advanced, and then select the Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions check box to make this change in all subsequent subkeys."
however, I am not sure if I should do that...

          DataOrb,

i can't see where applying sp1 could hurt. i had no adverse effects on my system. i definitly would upgrade the bios...

have you tried to remove it and let win2k "re-discover" it??
