  • PIII 700 Coppermine @ ?mhz

    Greetings.

Are there any Murcers out there with this chip, and if so, any joy in overclocking it? I've just ordered one and i'm hoping to kick it in at 1008mhz. Pipe dream or possibility?

    Cheers,

    Giskard

Check the SL#'s on your new processor. If it has the cBO stepping there is a very good chance of getting in the upper 900's and even possibly a "GIG".

    For slot1 - SL454 Retail, SL453 OEM
    For FCPGA - Sl45Y Retail, SL3XX OEM

I just recently got one, which is a cbo stepping, and it will do 933 with the stock heatsink, but any higher will eventually give me errors running prime95. I'm suspicious of my ram though... have another stick on order to see if it is. Maybe it'll be here today! I'll post back if anything different.

Current system is a PIII500E @720MHz(144fsb), with stock cooling, so i'm pretty confident in the system as a whole. I just hope that i dont have jump through hoops to get the 700E to work it's magic.

Mines happy on stock cooling at 933 with 133 SDRAM. Any faster and I start getting errors after a while, I expect I could push it farther with better cooling and increasing the core V.
Unfortunately I'm stuck with 100mhz RAM for now

DuRaNgO, I was on the phone talking to Gabe two days ago and he's thinking about selling nothing but watercooled systems!

Do you have to warn the power grid before you turn the machine on

                            Update:

Got the chip yesterday. Currently running @ 933mhz Retail h/s and fan. BX chipset, 28 deg c. CPU, 36 deg c under full load (seti crunching among other things) and 24 deg c when idle. Ambient temp around 24 deg c.

Was hoping for 1008mhz, but i'm not really too worried. It's not like i'm getting aggressive with cooling or anything.

                            Cheers,
