I must admit I would like to stick with the stock hs, how far would be safe but worthwhile?

(silly question I know but I'm bored)

I will just bung a ford starter motor on the fan and break the 2!Ghz speedlimit

seriously though do you think 805Mhz is pushing it for a stock fan?

The stock fan will do 805 easy. No problem. I've had my 650E at 124 MHz fsb stable with the stock fan. Others have done better. Keep an eye on the temperature the first time you run it. Of course, your case temperature has to be reasonable. Make sure you have adequate ventilation.

Also, I think taking off the cooler, cleaning it, and replacing the stock thermal pad with a thin layer of heat-transfer grease is a good idea.

thanks for your help brian, my ambient case temp is 28c and cpu idles at 24c, just started playing so dont know what its like under load, (this is all at stock speed) my case has just about NO ventilation

Keep an eye on the cpu temp for 30 minutes or so after you oc it. Make sure it is stabilizing and not out of control. If you can, put in an exhaust fan somewhere in the upper side of the case or by the cpu.

The internal case temperature is going to be your lower limit for your heatsink temperature no matter how efficient your cooler is. Also, the cpu is always going to be hotter than your heatsink.

Ideally, you want to get it up to a speed where the 1/4 PCI divider kicks in. I'm fairly reckless in this regard with Coppermines. I tend to up the voltage a bit and immediately try for a 124 MHz FSB (PCI Bus: 31 MHz). If that works, and it has with the three Coppermines I own, I go for 133 MHz.

I bought mine with a Golden Orb cooler and went straight for 933Mhz on 133Mhz bus, Default voltage and it worked like a charm. Will go for higher after a weeks burn in. Running now at 960 at 137Mhz.

                  Get the Abit system utility....
                  http://www.abit-usa.com/utilities/hw...6-II/be6ii.exe

Just keep an eye on your temp.
Mine is running with a stock hs/fan @ stock 1.65v right now, overclocked from 650 to 912.
It runs at about 49C, which is well within the operating range of the coppermine.

thanks for all the responses, I only got it yesterday and last night I thought I would give it a run in, my ambient case temp gets too high for my comfort at the moment (41c), cpu seems to top out at about (40c). I will invest in a couple of case fans before I try squeezing any extra Mhz out of it.

Does anyone know of any 80mm and 60mm fans that are powerful yet quiet? (my girlfriend kicks off if it gets too loud)

I've been thinking of getting one of the newer SECC2 P3-700 with CBO Stepping to replace my old P3-700E Slot1.
