  • AGP trouble Asus CUSL2 (Intel 815E) & G400 DH

I have a new motherboard from Asus the CUSL2
and i have got a Matrox Millenium G400 DH 32mb Sgram. The problem is that it will not work stable in 2x AGP mode and 4x AGP will not worki at all. I have done everything (new bios, drivers etc.) but it doesn't help!!!
Is there someone who can help me?

Could you give us some more info such as... IRQ assignments, FSB speed, OS, etc.

Looks like you have what they call "ghost" devices on IRQ 10 and 11. Boot up in safe mode and you'll probably see multiple instances of the same device on these IRQs ... delete them, reboot, and reinstall the devices. Also, unless you're using Windows 2000, the G400 doesn't like to share IRQs with other devices. Check the FAQ forum for some threads about manipulating IRQs.

First of all you don't want to have anything in PCI slot 3. Second if your not using the additional USB ports that came with the board disable the second USB controller, Also while your at it, if you have any serial ports that are not being used disable those in Bios as well. There is some information floating around about how to setup this board to make it run fast and stable if I can find it again I will post it here. My CUSL is running flawlessly since I followed those setup directions (which I knew I should have kept but didn't).

I actually just found them. Substitute the SCSI stuff for your DVD Decoder card and all should be good to go.

Matrox G400 Max AGP slot (doh!)
Adaptec 29160 PCI Slot 1 (Put he DVD Decoder in slot PCI SLot 1)
            Adaptec 2940U2W PCI Slot 2
            PCI Slot 3 Free
            SBLive Platinum PCI Slot 4
            Intel NIC PCI Slot 5
ATM Modem DSL Line Slot 6

"If you check the manual the slots 1 & 5 share so any device in slot 5 should
            not be a busmastering device.
Also try and avoid puting bus mastering devices in 3 & 6.
The SBLive I think should go in slot 4 as long as you disable the CNR lan in
the bios. Hence it is not shared with any devices."

Ever since I followed this guys advice I have not had a single problem, even the slow bootup time was cut in half.
