  • InternetExplorer5 problem, help please

I am have an intermittent but recurring problem with my IE5.01 web browser. Certain web sites that usually load fine are not loading at all, certain sites just hang, and on other sites images do not load. When I attempt the exact same sites with Netscape they are fine (same connection ISP too).

What I want to know is how to effectively refresh IE5, because when I ran IE5 setup, and reinstalled many of the core companents, rebooted the system, I was still getting the same problem. Is there a way to do a clean uninstall of IE5...or an other suggestion please..I like using IE5 over netscape.

    Thhanks

I get the same problem, except with IE 5.5, whenever I open a new window the first time it is slow, then I open more (such as when I open up all the threads that interest me here) and they work fine, kinda like UT in precaching what opening a new window is like, it's annoying cos it hangs for about 3 seconds... hmmm doesn't sound that bad but it's annoying, and then I type in an address to go to and it takes ages to start doing anything, but then once it does it's speedy fast.

ButI forgot to add, then it hangs...with the cursor going into a spinning hourglass busy mode, and NO other webpages can load. The only solution is to close Explorer and start it again. It actually prevents me from accessing anything, sort of digging in its heels...I still think a solve may be to totally uninstall IE5...is there a easy and effective way to do this?

If you upgraded to IE5 there should be an option to uninstall it via the add remove programs. If there isn't and your using windoze 98SE you can upgrade by installing the office 2000 version you may need a buddy here if you haven't got the cd. Just make sure you copy the IE5 directory to either a Cd or your hard disk or you won't be able to install and plugins etc. There is also a service pack out on the web but if you need office 2000 help you'll have to hack the registry. Another solution is to download IE5.5 and give that a spin.

So IE5 does not have an uninstall option, in fact the fact sheet at MSFT says it CANNOT be uninstalled at all!

So, I d/led IE 5.5 BETA and things are working for now...we'll see if the problems return..thanks again

I had this same prob, but it was with Netscape and IE5 worked! And I prefer Netscape! But now I am using IE5.5 and Outlook express. I hate the crashing thing.

Netscape is so old it leaks memory like anything on earth, has problems with the latest Java. Pr1 6.0 was to buggy by all accounts and the speed that Aol are devoloping things they might as well call it netscape 7 when it comes out.
