  • BNC Cable Quality

    Hi all.

I'm currently using a Matrox G400 and ViewSonic PF815 (22", flat, apperature grill) monitor with the usual 15 pin VGA cable that came with the monitor. I typically run in 1280x1024x32-bit @ 85 Hz.

Image quality is important to me (why else spend so much on a monitor?) and I've been thinking about getting a BNC cable.

    So I have 2 questions:

    1) Will a BNC cable give me better image quality?

    2) What one should I get? I assume that all are not created equal. Radio Shack lists a 6' BNC cable for $35 Canadian, while to buy one from ViewSonic's online store costs $55 US. I'm tempted to get the one from ViewSonic, even though it will top $100 Canadian after shipping and taxes (and especially duty: god damn duty!).

Does anyone have any advice to offer?

    Thanks,

    Cory

It's generally believed that a bnc (rgb)will give better image at higher resolutions(actual benchmarks bear this out)
Your resolution falls into that category!
The difference between cables are probably minimal as long as its fully shielded, etc.
So why spend a fortune on something that may improve the image.
Her's a link that has a bnc cable cheap,If you see a major improvement then consider investing more(unless this one works O.K.)
I tried to directly link to the page, however if it defaults to the opening page,it's found under cables and adapters. http://www.computergate.com/cgi-bin/...&cd=CVG15MN6N5

      Thanks Alfie.

I'll probably pick one up locally as duty, shipping, and exchange make buying anything from the US an expensive proposition.

Didn't Nafta get rid of duties?

            Nope.

NAFTA just made it easier for the big companies to buy and sell to/from each other.

Our government still wants the little people to "buy Canadian", and duty is there to discourage us from buying from the "big, bad Americans", thereby depriving local businesses of their god-given right to rip me off, yadda, yadda, whatever.

Plus the exchange rate sucks at the moment too. And shipping rates to Canada suck as well. So I hardly buy anything on-line, the prices look really great, but once you factor in everything else it's at least as expensive as shopping at home.

And that's the way "they" want it.
