  • mc-1000 peltier and water :)

    well, got bored of air cooling my cpu, so I ordered the Swiftech MC-1000 Peltier cooling unit and some parts for a DIY water heat transfer system that'll pump the heat directly off the peltier unit and out of the box to a small radiator and back into the box, hopefully cooler
    I got the MC-1000 because it'll work on almost any cpu (Athlon, P-2, P-3, Cumine, etc) and it's supposed to be 99% condensation free
    problem is, it will take up to three weeks to get here
    also have some cas2 PNY PC-133 coming, supposed to be able to run above 140mhz

    Yay, check thi video, it accompanied a DIY water cooling systems article on a pctuning site...

    He built the water resevoir directly on the cpu and used a car water pump to pump the water around ...

    his specs - Celeron 333@515, core voltage 2,4 V (with some obscure pin combo).

      nice, I have come up with a power head from my 125gal fish tank that is not in use (fish suck :P)
      the great thing is how quiet it is, I'm now looking for a very small radiator/coil, about 4" x 6" should be perfect, so I can mount it in a 8"w x 12"l x 4"h aluminum project box that I've come up with along with the pump, resevoir and p.s.
      I could use my 300wt. p.s. but this way it's a self sufficient system
      With the amount of circulation this power head can do, I may be able to tee off to the harddrive or g400 as well, we'll see

        WOW..

        a Celeon 333 @ 515 @2.4v.. yeah.. that was REALLY worth the effort for water cooling..

        i feel like such a fool by using a simple heatsink and some fans to bring my Celeron 366 to 566 at 2.1v..

        i think that guy should have taken the money he invested in his 333 and used it on a 366 or a 333 that was tested to do 515 at less than 2.4v

        Durango.. you can look at oil coolers and transmission coolers available at autostores for your radiator.. some come in really small sizes and you might be able to use them.

          Dammit... mine 366 is a bit unstable at 550. I thik I'll need better cooling too.

          Do you use passive heatsink and fans?

            also, got some PC-133 ram today:
            was able to boot and "almost" make it to the desktop @140mhz! and got to the desktop @133 but crashed 30 seconds later, doh!
            very promising though

              Durango, I picked up an "Imperial" brand transmission radiator for my cooling project. It's 10.5" x 5" x 3/4" (P#242009) and for only $25 @ Autozone. Plan on mounting it into the top of my InWin Q500 tower.

                Let me add that if you intend on modifing the MC1000 I'd suggesst you talk with Gabreil (owner of Swiftech), 1 on 1! The surface area of the "radiator" must exceed that of the MC1000. Also by removing the heat to the out side of the case could increase chances of condensate forming.

                  Thanks Greebe, that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing, (i.e. water cool the cpu and use the MC-1000 to cool the water/radiator) I'm hoping to see the MC-1000 show up this week

                        yeah.. its a passive heatsink.. it was originally for an OEM PII400 in a Gateway comp. The guy who originally had it got one that had a fan on it got o/c purposes. Anyways, I took it, put four fans on it, sealed off the sides aside from inlet and outlet.. and installed that. My 366 is PPGA so I had to drill and tap some holes and do some mod's to the Slotket adapter..

                        The reason I modded that OEM heatsink was because it was 6" wide, 4" high, and 4" deep. Its a monster!

                          http://www.cpuidle.de - this is awesome, it dropped my CPU temperature from searing hot (I could not hold my finger on the cpu running) to really cold (definitely lower than the body temperature, cause the cpu now seems cold on touch). I don't have a precise thermometer here, but damn it's amazing, considering it is a software cooler. Yes, weird, but works. Magic!

                          Definitely a must try, and not only for o/c people.

                            O.K!
                            got the MC-1000 today, yes, took a very loooong time along with all the other parts I need for the mod, hope to have it up and running in a couple of days

                            After a little testing with the ol' 500, they'll be a 600e replacing it!

                            My goal is 150fsb which will put it at 900, we'll see, prolly(cool word) have to go to agp 1x at that bus

                              may i ask why you decided on useing a mc-1000 modified for watercooling?
                              You could've made a similarily performing heatsink with a spare piece of aluminum, drill, thread tap, and sand paper.
                              It would've run only about 15-20$ for the waterblock itself, and you could've easily added in 72 watt pelters on your own (10-15 a piece)
                              You will also have to have a VERY high powered (not nesisarily high flo) pump to be able to move the water through the fins fast enouph to get good results with it.
                              Also, modifying the heatsink will be a major hasle, you would have to cover it either in aluminum or plexi glass and use a silicon sealent to seal it water-tight which is danjerous as the sealent could develop leaks overtime, especially if you use a high gph water pump.
                              As for a radiator, i'd sudjest a transmition oil cooler, they are small and high performing
