View Full Version : What's your computer configuration

Mine isn't as big as some peoples, but I get no complaints :P , so I'm not ashamed to whip it out.

Asus P3B-F, r1.03, Bios 1.005
P!!! 500E@733, SL3V5, SECC2, Retail
G400 32 DH, 5.52, 1.5-22 (IRQ 10)
RR-G, VT 1.52
128 MB Crucial 7.5 ns, @(2,2,2)
Adaptec 2940U, bios 2.20.0, FMS 3.03 (INT 11, PCI 2)
IBM DNES-309170 Ultrastar 18ES 9.1GB UltraSCSI HD (2MB, 7200rpm)
Plextor UltraPlex 40 Max
Promise Fasttrak66, bios 1.30 build 2, D1.30 (INT 15, PCI 3)
2+0 stripe, Western Digital WD136BA, 13.6GB HDs (2MB, 7200rpm)
SBLive! Value, L!W 3.0 (INT 5, PCI 4)
Kingston KNE110TX 10/100, driver 1.3 (INT 5, PCI 5)
3Com USR 56K ISA Winmodem (INT 4, COM 3), retail driver
HP DeskJet 970Cse Printer (LPT1, INT 7)
Sharp SE500 PDA (COM 1, INT 3)
Imation LS-120 (Primary IDE, INT 14)
Microtek Slimscan C6 USB scanner
Microsoft Intellimouse w/ intellieye(PS2)
Enlight 7237 Mid w/250W PS

I force the IRQ's for the add in cards, which keeps the controllers and vid INT>9, and the SB on 5. This does muck up USB a little, but not so bad.

Here's a thread I would find helpful. When I'm contemplating an upgrade, I like to see what hardware others use. To this end, I think a listing of your hardware (as specific as you want to be) would be helpful.

To keep this from being soap boxed, please refrain from challenging someone's choice of hardware...

Here's my MCSE practice server I assembled from used parts that I begged, borrowed, and stole last month. Don't laugh, I'm using it to send this reply and it works just fine as an NT server. It surpasses Microsoft's minimum requirements:

Cyrix P166+ Processor
DFI G586IPC Mobo (Intel HX chipset)
32 megs RAM on 4-8meg 30 pin Simms (70ns)
Diamond(?) SVGA ISA graphics card
IBM 14" VGA monitor (60Hz max refresh rate @ 256 colors)
1.0 gig Seagate HD (NTFS formatted)
Diamond 8x CD-ROM (slooowwwwww)
US Robotics 33.6 external modem
Diamond(?) ESS1868 ISA sound card
Linksys 10/100 PCI network card
Colorado 250 MB Tape backup
Windows NT Server 4.0 (120 day evaluation copy)

It might be slow, but its faster than my wife's HP 486/66XM. http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif

Oh, BTW, I also have 2 K6-3 450's with a G400
and G200 respectively and a K6-2 350 with a Matrox Mystique (the original - not the G200 version). They are all alive and in various states of health - no hardware problems - just Windows diseases.

Adaptec 29160N Scsi controller
2 Seagate 182GB Ultra2 LVD Cheetazzzz
Plextor Ultra Plex 40 CD
Plextor Plexwriter 8/20 CD-R
SB-Live! X-Gamer
Midiman Delta 1010 8-track hard disk Record (multitrack soundcard)
3DCool Toronado 1000 case
Viewsonic PF790 19" monitor
some cheap Yamaha speakers that are going to be replaced with powered Near Field monitor speakers or doing music mastering.

12th May 2000, 01:53
Huh, I was thinking I'd have the slowest and then RAB goes and whoops everything http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

So then:

Main Workstation
P2-350 on SuperP6SBA with 2 x 128Mb SDRAM.
'Sparkle' TNT2 32Mb, SBLive!, 3Com 905B-TX 10/100 NIC, 2 x 56k s/w modem, Advansys SCSI.
IBM Deskstar 20Gb, Pioneer 10x Slot DVD, Pioneer 36x Slot CD, Yamaha 6416 RW SCSI.
Iiyama 19" VM-Pro 450 displaying Windows 2000 Pro, Win98 and occasional flirt with RedHat 6.x and BeOS 5.
(I switch between SCSI card and 2nd modem for multilinking and adding Zip100 drive in next few days)

Word Processing/Web Clients
1. Intel P120@P166, 32Mb RAM, Quantum 4Gb, Diamond Stealth 64 2Mb (Trio64), Diamond Voodoo1, some sound card, 3Com 905B-TX 10/100 NIC, 8x Creative CD-ROM, 15" Samsung monitor and a Sony floppy.
2/. Compaq Prolinea: Intel 486 SX/33, 12Mb RAM, 200Mb Hdd, Tseng Labs OBVGA, 3Com problematic 509 NIC, 14" Acer and a Compaq floppy.

Midi Tower ATX Case, Sony floppy, Creative TNT1 16Mb, G200 8Mb SG, a few Tridents, ATi's and Verite2200's and sound cards, network cards, a Cyrix 333 and a USR Sportster 28.8 ISA

Plan to get an P3-600E and Abit BF6 to build another system out of the above and turn the P2 or P120 into some sort of servers, this will also let me have a floppy in my main machine as the P2's controller is bust.

Possibly too much info, but I have been recommended the Abit board for OCing the 600E and not any boards for U66 as there are some problems - I am going for a plain U33 motherboard now and may add a U66/IDE RAID card later.

Hope this helps anyway,

Okay - always nice to list hardware specs for some other reason than solving a problem.

I've got six systems - but I won't bore you all by listing each one - just the big daddy:

Athlon 800 with Globalwin VOS32 HeatSink
Abit KA7
256MB PC133 Memory
Eizo 21" Monitor
Matrox G400 Max
SBLive (Original full version with I/O card)
Creative DXR3 Decoder
SB AWE32 (32MB memory expansion) with Yamaha DB50XG Daughterboard
Adaptec 29160 (64bit) Scsi Controller
Zoom 56K PCI Modem
Realtek Network card
1 x Quantum Atlas II 9.1GB 7200RPM Scsi Drive
1 x Quantum Atlas IV 9.1GB 7200RPM Scsi Drive
Ancient Sony 12 x Scsi CD Rom
Plextor 40 x Scsi CD Rom
HP 9200 Plus 8 x Write, 4 x RW, 32 x Read Scsi Cd Recorder/Rewriter
Creative 6 x IDE DVD Rom
LS120 IDE Super Floppy
Zip 100MB Scsi drive

Mustek 1200UB Usb Scanner
Canon LBP660 Laser printer

Everything lives in a very large full tower case and to my complete amazement, I've managed to get everying to cooperate peacefully under Win 2K! And yes I am one of those mad bastards who adores Scsi Hardware.

Gods, you people make me sick...! With jealousy....!! http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, yeah, system specs, whatever...

Celeron 333@333 at the moment but it will do 375
Maxtor 20GB HDD
http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/biggrin.gifG400 MAX http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/biggrin.gif,
Phillips Mag 107B 17" monitor
LS-120 (internal)
Acer 10X DVD-ROM
HP 8100i CD-RW
Diamond Monster Sound MX300
Iwill Ultra66 controller
Trend 10/100 Fast Ethernet controller
Cirrus Logic v.90 PCI modem
IBM USB webcam
Acer 620 USB scanner
Logitech FirstMouse +

The spare I'll use while my PC is being shipped (I'll pull most of these parts but for the mobo and CPU and bring them along in my carryon):

Octek Rhino20+
My other stick of 128MB PC-100 SDRAM
My other Maxtor 20GB HDD
One of my 2 other Iwill Ultra66 controllers
One of my four other Trend 10/100 Fast Ethernet controllers (hey, I was consuming mass quantities that month, leave me alone http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif)
My very old Canopus Total3D (Rendition 1000), since I lent out my G200 to someone and now can't get it back http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/frown.gif
My old but trusty Ensonique Soundscape
16X Nakamichi 5-disk CD changer (which doesn't read CD-RWs http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/frown.gif)
LS-120 (disassembled from the parallel port external casing)
My very old Boca 33.6 ISA modem
An old 14" interlaced monitor (hey, I'm only using it for a week, if that long!)
Either my Logitech Marble or Vista (old trackballs)
And whatever of the 3 or 4 keyboards I have that has the right plug to fit in whichever kind of keyboard socket this d*mn mobo has...

Other: 2 gamepads, 1 joystick, 1 inkjet printer (PC), one inkjet printer (Mac-- I found it, and didn't see the little apple on it till I had got home http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/frown.gif), a lot of old SIMMs of various sizes, 1 old 386, a couple of old Cyrix 686 cpus, I think 3 socket 7 mobos, several ISA VGA cards (one mono), a couple of old modems (2 external, one internal), one MediaVision soundcard where the FM synthesis doesn't work (they told me that the thing didn't have a Yamaha chip, so that couldn't be it... when I was looking at a chip on the board that said 'Yamaha', lol), 2 so-so NEC 4-disk CD changers, several removable drive casings from the Eagle Nest series, 1 5.25" floppy, a bunch of various tiny HDD's, plus one full size old one (that's in the 386), a couple of drive controller cards... and a bunch of loose cables, screws, 5.25" drivebay covers, rails, and odds and ends.

Glad you asked, aren't you? http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

loads of old 486 and old pentium bits n' bobs.
I also have a few AST P60/P75/486 Base Units at the moment...

PC1 is mine - I do everything I want on it. (Win2k, Win98)
PC2 is the one my younger brother uses for whatever he wants. (Win98)
PC3 is in the Living Room - it plays DVDs and also gives internet access for my parents. Also, my dad's main PC for stuff he does. (Win98)
PC4 connects all these together through its Hub Card (4 10/100 ports on the back of the NIC) - It runs Win98 and Internet Connection Sharing which auto dials up to the net whenever anyone wants internet access. Also has that RAID card which is a bit wasted in that PC (it's a full length PCI card!) but it gives a 6Gb shared drive for anyone to use.

Anything else?
