    ive fresh installed win98 to a P3V4X with G400 video card and intel 667 Mhz Piii.... installed the 4in1 ver 4.17 drivers and then G400max 5.25 driver. it locked up after a few minutes in the desktop. so i decided to change the video card driver to 5.30... uninstalled the 5.25 and restarted, after that it booted very slow and locked up before it gets in to windows desktop... wht did i do wrong? all the bios settings are on default... i hve to no irq conflict.

    so then reinstalled windows (fresh) but still it doesnt get to windows after installing the 4in1 drivers. i dont think this is common... so i turn to you guys for ideas or some advice... thnx

        ive installed windows98 again.. fresh and installed the 4in1 driver ver 4.17... just these drivers... it restarted very slow and locked up... hit the reset button... and booted slow so, gets to windows desktop. why does it boot so slow? i hve a 13.6gig quantum HD ATA66.... i unsinstalled the 4in1 4.17 and installed ver 4.20 4in1. rebooted ok and fast. wht version of PD shud i install with this 4.20 drivers?

        thnx

          You should use the 4.17 version for the AGP GART driver. The 4.20 slows down performance. I've running the current Matrox drivers. If you have a network card installed that will slow down bootup.

            IceStorm, i was just reading through your system spec when i came across this;

            My BIOS is set as follows:

            - AGP speed is at 2x
            - UWSC <- whatever the setting is that isn't UC
            - AGP Apeture is set to 256MB
            - AGP Fast Writes are enabled.
            Now as you'll see i've got pretty similar specs as yourself(in Signature), however i didn't realise G400max supported USWC (uncacheable, speculative write combining) nor did i realise it supported AGP Fast Writes are enabled. I thought Fast Writes is only used for GeForce based graphics cards.
            Don't get me wrong, i'm only commenting on what i heard, if this is how you've set your bios, i'll try the same on mine.
            Cheers.

              One more thing IceStorm, what type of ram are you using in you system? Are you running the memory at the full FSB or do you have the +33/-33 setting switched on?

                  Cancer,

                  From what I understand, the G400 does support USWC, but doesn't support fast writes.
