  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for next computer

I've been kicking this around for a bit now and just wanted some imput on something I might be missing. I plan on getting a 1GHz AMD Thunderbird sometime in the later part of the year (hopefully a G800 to go with it too!) and I'm thinking about getting a Kenwood 72x Truespeed drive or a DVD-ROM drive as the primary CD drive. I currently have a 5x drive in my current system which I plan on keeping as a secondary system to burn CDs or what not. I'm I missing something or just worrying too much??

    Hey Scott,

For your secondary system (your current one), do you plan to continue to watch DVD's on that computer? If the main purpose for the secondary system is for storage and burning CDs, you should just get a regular CD-ROM drive to go with the burner, and just port the AOpen DVD drive to your NEW computer. There are faster DVD drives out on the market, but the 5X model you have is still very good and very current. But, if you have the money to burn, by all means get a new DVD drive or the Kenwood 72X, or both.

I personally have the Kenwood 52X drive, but because I do watch some DVDs on my computer once in a while so the drive does have a limitation - not being able to read DVDs, so I moved the Truespeed drive to my dad's computer. It's great for playing games, but has that limited functionality.
