  • Something wrong with SIMD on Celeron2 ?

Just read a review on Gamepc

if you look at the Q3 benchmarks on page 5, (http://www.gamepc.com/reviews/hardware_review.asp?review=celermine&page=5), you'll see that the old 300A@450 runs just as fast as a Celeron2 633, this might be right, because of the higher bus speed.

But! When you look at the 3D Mark 2000 scores the Celeron2 should bash the 300A to tiny bits because of SIMD (remember how much faster P3 was compared to P2, because of SIMD, in 3D mark?), this doesn't happen ....

I see it two ways, either Intel has done something horrible to the Celeron2 and are not telling us, or the people at GamePC have been given bogus Celeron2's.

I'm actually beginning to suspect the latter, as they are the only site who has Celeron2's at 663 and 700 MHZ, and furthermore managed to overclock these to 1GHZ, whereas other sites I've seen, have been less fortunate.

This is only a suspicion, and I'm not out to offend anybody, I am however bewildered, and I seriously hope that new reviews can cast light on the matter.

Why not report your benchmark results (using 3Dfarq2K) so we can compare.

The benchmarks were done on a unspecified VIA 133A board, with 128 MB 133 MHz ram, ASUS V6800 DDR, 16 bit colour
