  • Not much luck overclocking... question.

I have a 550 (Katmai) that I'm not having much luck overclocking. I don't know if it's my mobo or my processor but I may consider a 550E if it's reasonable enough price-wise.

Would this be a good move? I know the 550E is much more overclockable (from what I've read) but again, don't know if my mobo is holding me back (IWILL VD133 - VIA chipset).

Any thoughts? I'm always looking to spend money on my computer - just don't want to throw it away...

I guess the first question is - can I just throw a Coppermine in my current slot? I don't know enough about CPUs to know the different types (except for Athlon vs. Intel).

Where is a reputable place to buy CPUs?

is there no harddrive in your system ?

Anyway, Ars Techinca has done a review on your board using a P3 500e, so Coppermines shold be OK

    Seem like a nice board

Here a link to Iwill's tech support if you want to make sure yourself

Thanks for the link to ARS. I'm still discovering different sites for this kind of stuff.

I feel much better about the mobo now! I may just shoot for the 500E or 550E. What's another 2 or 3 bills, right?

      Oh, I do have a harddrive - it's a 20Gig something or other...
