  • Westworld (HBO)

Jonathan "Jonah" Nolan is Chris Nolan's brother and co-writer of The Dark Knight.

Bad Robot is living up to its name today as Deadline reports that J.J. Abrams and Jonah Nolan are teaming with Warner Bros. Television's Jerry Weintraub to adapt Michael Crichton 1973's sci-fi thriller for the small screen. HBO has given the planned series a pilot commitment with Nolan directing the pilot and writing alongside "Burn Notice" scribe Lisa Joy.

Westworld received a sequel, Futureworld, in 1976 and was spun off into a short-lived series, "Beyond Westworld," in 1980.
    Beyond Westworld
only five episodes were produced, and only three of them were aired before cancellation.
Aye Caramba, that must have been awful.

I'm not sure how the Westworld concept can support a series. It's actually an entire genre in itself, comprised almost entirely of Michael Crichton movies and cheap knock-offs.

HBO does pretty well with its adaptations, and the budgets are usually good. Let's hope they follow with good scripts after the pilot.
