  • HELP!!! G400+Athlon+Biostar M7mka+SBLive: can't install LW3

I just upgraded my system to an Athlon 600 an a Biostar M7mka. I switched
from a p3 450 installed on a QDI BX (no problem at all).
The problem is simple: I can't install LW3 (internet downloaded). No problem
    installing LW2 from CD.
But when I try to instal the newer version I obtain that message:

"Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster card on your system. Please ensure
that your Sound Blaster Live! hardware is properly installed before running
this Setup program. Setup will now exit. "

According to Creative FAQ, I tried the following workarounds:

Check that Sound Blaster Live! is enabled under System Devices.
    Use another mouse device.
Make sure PNP OS INSTALLED is set to YES.
Move the card to another PCI slot.

I tried everything (even leaving only the Live and the G400).No way. I have latest
bios/drivers versions and Windows98Se. I tried differnet Powerdesk releases.
    Solutions.
    Thank you a lot.

    My configuration:
    Athlon 600
    Biostar M7mka
    128mb sdram
    G400 DH 32mb
    Lucent Winmodem
    SBLive 1024
    Dxr3
IBM DPTA 20gb U/66 Primary master
    Quantum 4.3 U/33 P.s.
    Pioneer DVD A103s S.m.
    Mistumi 4801TE S.s.

      Hi Sharyz,

I have an Athlon system with a G400 and SB PCI 1024. I don't install the web version because I got a friend to burn a copy of the LW3 CD. I also don't have that motherboard but I have installed on both an Asus K7M and Epox 7KXA. No problems with either. But you could try a few things. First make sure the SB Live is on it's own IRQ. It's one of those components that doesn't like to "share". Then check BIOS for anything like a "memory hole" (in the 14-16 MB range of memory) enable it. Other than that try another mouse (I don't really know why this helps.) If those things don't work. I'd try downloading LW3 again using a program like Getright or Gozilla. You may have a corrupted download. I know it's not the G400's fault.

Enabling the 15-16MB memory hole could cause trouble. This option is meant for older ISA cards that map their own memory just below 16MB. It is not used by PCI cards. I had this error installing LW3 once when IE5.01 really had messed up my registry. This was only solvable by restoring a backup I had. Reinstalling would have been the second alternative.

          Regards, Alegria

Well i got the same problem here the web version of liveware 3 does not detect, or fails to install with a 1024 sblive board.

Only way is to have the full cd (the one that come with platinium is pretty good)

I too have an Athlon (650), Biocrap K7MKA, G400 and SB Live! (old full retail, not value). I have had no troubles installing the internet downloaded LW3. You said that you installed LW2 from CD before installing LW3...Did you uninstall LW2 before you tried to install LW3? I don't see how it could screw with the detection, but stranger things have happened.

Also, make sure the BIOS has the newest version flashed and that the PnPray mode is set to YES (unless you use DOS or Win NT).
