What I've got working for me is:

      Athlon 700
Asus K7M mobo with 1209 beta bios
      Enlight 7237 case w/ 300W P/S
Corsair Micro 2 * 128MB DIMMs with Micron chips
SB-Live X-Gamer, but a SB-Live Value is probably good enough for most people...only the features and bundle are different.

Asus is releasing a new bios for the K7M it seems like every 3rd day. And then they force you to have to do a "load optimal settings" or "load default settings" after a bios flash with the more recent bioses. ugh. I'm not the happiest camper with that. Also, the K7M requires you to do a registry hack of forceagp2x.reg to work with a G400.

Sometimes I wish that I had gotten another athlon mobo. For now, it is working really nicely with the old 1209 bios for me.

LAMFDTK, at least give him a G400 and a keyboard that spews out more lines than the one or 2 liners you've given us over the past couple of weeks ...

I'd try to contact Greebe to give your co-worker an OC'ed Athlon on an MSI-6167.

And Greebe will know what to do with the rest of the casing !! (i.e: what works best with the Athlon)

For the Mobo I'd recomend getting one of the new KX133 boards. Right now there are 3 options available. The Epox 7KXA(available now). The AOpen AK72 which supposedly started shipping to retailers yesterday. And the Tyan S2380 which is supposed to start shipping to retailers tommorow. Also the Asus K7V is supposed to start shipping mid April.

If you don't want to chance a KX133 board then the best options is probably the MSI 6195 rev. 110 (aka K7Pro).

As far as the chip iteself I think the best price/perf is probably the 650, although it might also be the 700. You really can't go wrong with either though, so if you have a little extra(and I do mean a little) then go ahead with the 700.

                        LAMFDTK,
email Greebe at epc@netdirect.net . He will give you a list of components that work.

All the components in my order except the MS-6195 and the Max are known by me to work. I built a system identical to this except it was a 600 Athlon and I used a MS-6167 and Marvel G400. It was the stablest system I ever saw (still is)

IceStorm, the reason for all the BIOS updates is because of all the problems thay've had!

It's a shame MSI can't come up with a BIOS update that actually makes USB function properly.
