  • overclocking and highpoint controllers

If you use a 1/4 pci divider on fsb speeds of
say 120 and over do I need to disable the
    highpoint controllers on my be6-2?
    If so, how?
I tried disabling them in device manager but
my computer would hang at the windows screen.

you would have to make sure your hdd is not plugged into the #3 and 4 ide slots(udma66) then set the hdd up in the bios, but you may not have to do that as I'm running @124 with no prob and can run @133bus as long as I don't do 3d apps

I just got my Soyo 6BA+ IV, and it has the same controller on it. Runnning at 126MHZ the controller runs fine, and under PCI spec of 33MHZ. In all honesty though, I don't "feel" much difference with them being on the ATA66 controllers as much as I thought I would. The only upgrade I made that seems to help things was the Kenwood 72X CD-Rom drive. Now all I need is a better Video Card Matrox... hint hint hint G450. I really don't want to wait for the G800 cause I've had the Max over 6 months which these days is about how long things last
        PIII 600E at 800Mhz, Waiting for G800, til then Voodoo3 3000, Asus P3B-F at 133FSB (ain't none better!), 256MB PC133 Memory, 2 Seagate 18GB Cheeeeetazzzz.

          bongo,
I'm using 2.1 volts, I have a hole in the side of my case with a "blowing" fan directed to the rear of the Tennmax P3STF fan/heatsink using a duct(quack-quack) I formed out of very thin piece of aluminum flashing and a "sucking" fan in the rear of the case with the same type of deal, along with a fan at the front of the case pulling air in and then getting sucked back out with a slot cooler, cpu runs @ 91f and board @ 75f
          hope this helps

My Abit BE6 is running just fine with the hdd's on the HighPoint DMA66 controllers at 124, too. Seems to be no problem at all.

In fact, I get more problems from the memory and Win2K than I get from any of my other components.

Are you guys using PIO or UDMA Mode for your hard drives when overclocking????

I don't know about the other brands of motherboards with HighPoint controllers or the add-in card, but with the Abit BE6, the controller BIOS automagically determines the correct mode to use for each device, and displays the selected mode during boot time.

At the moment, both of my drives appear to be detected correctly too. The 15GB is using DMA66 while my old 6.4 is using DMA33. This is with the front side bus set to 124 (1/4). Even with the FSB set to 124 (1/3), it still works fine. BTW- for those without this mobo, the (1/4) and (1/3) are the PCI bus multipliers in use. I leave mine at 1/4, which is just slightly underclocked, to make sure I don't run into any nasty surprises, like hard disk errors (bad sectors and whatnot).

I've been using UDMA 4 for my two IBM HDs. I've heard of some using PIO 3 for overclocking but I've had no trouble using UDMA 4.
