  • Bongo Gotta o'clock, but How he Asks? The horror...

    Hey all,

    I have an ABIT BE6 II and a P3-500 CPU.

    In the Softmenu settings of the mobo I can adjust speed settings. The current CPU setting is at 500mhz. I first changed the setting from 500 to 600, and the remaining settings adjusted accordingly and automatically. I saved the settings, rebooted and no change. The boot up screen still shows 500mhz, and when I ran Winbench98 it showed no change from my pathetic attempt at oclocking.

    So, now I rebooted and set back the settings to 500....but I noticed there was a "USER DEFINE" option which allows me to individually change the settings as follows:

    CPU OP FREQ = USER DEFINE (SET AT 500)
    CPU FSB = 100
    CPU MULTIPLIER = x5
    SEL100 = DEFAULT
    PCI CLOCK/CPU FSB = 1/3
    AGP CLOCK/CPU FSB = 2/3
    CPU CORE VOLT = 3.30
    IN ORDER QUES = 8
    LEVEL2 = DEFAULT

    Okay, so what do I change and by how much? I can only access those settings when I place the CPU OP FREQ in USER DEFINE mode, other wise I have to select presets ranging from 233 to 750mhz. But like I said before, I tried that at the 600mhz pre-set and no difference.

    Any help would be great, and please remember I am new to oclocking, but to computer in general.

    see you

    oh yeah, and if you succeed at oclocking the p3 from 500 to 600...will it show up as 600mhz on the dos boot up screen?

      The CPU speed is the product of the FSB and the Multiplier. In your case 100 x 5 = 500. The P3's have their multipliers locked, so you will have to increase the FSB. (I'm not a P3 user, so I'm not the best person to give you advice on the ABIT softfsb.) But remember, the CPU gets hotter as it runs faster, so make sure its adequately cooled. You may need a better heat sink and/or another case fan. And don't blame me if it blows up. Your boot screen should show the new speed if you do it properly.

        hey bongo,
        try setting your bus speed at 112 first, if it works then go to 120, then 124, test it in 3d apps as that's usually when it'll crash if not stable, the voltage is very wrong, it should be 2.00 to 2.30, I can boot into windows at 133bus with 2.30vt but it's not stable, yet, peltier on the way
        and disable speed error correction if you have it
        good luck

          Check that you have the new version of the bios aswell. I have tried a 500 @ 600 usinf a 120 fsb but the board still reported 500. When the bios was updated it read correctly.

          Remember to set the agp at 2/3 and the pci at 1/4 otherwise you'll run into problems and may lose data. Don't up the viltage unless it needs it. A 500 chip may overheat at 500 if given 2.3 volts if the heatsink isn't man enough to cool it.

            So, I o'd the P3 500 by boosting the bus speed to 120 from 100, and when I booted up I got a reading of 600 mhz...but when Win loaded my regisrtry was all screwed up and I had to reload all my hardware drivers and some software...AAARGH! Took me 3 hrs!!

            How can I avoid this again, do I need to boost the voltage?? Advice??

              Do you have your HDs on the 66 controller or the 33? If you have them on the 33 switch them to the 66 and try it again. if that doesn't work then try disabling UDMA in your bios. Currently on my BE6 I have my FSB at 115mhz and my Matrox 6800 27.2g 7200rpm DMA/66 on the 66 controller and it works perfectly.

              ------------------

              C:\DOS\RUN
              \RUN\DOS\RUN
              C:\DOS
              C:\DOS\RUN
              \RUN\DOS\RUN

                If I disable the UDMA in my bios, won't that make my udma 66 HD run at 33, hence slower?

                        don't disable udma if you go to 66, try upping your voltage to 2.2

                          why would you go right to 120 FSB when someone told you to try 112 and see if its stable?? *sigh* anyways next time if ur
                          registry screws up you shouldnt have to reload everything...just "restore"it to the
                          previous day....go to DOS mode and type in
                          scanreg /restore...you'll know what to do from there....
