  • win2000, multilinking and quake 2

Don/t know if this question belongs under gaming or hardware.... but anyway ..
I just put a second modem in my pc and setup
my account for multilinking with my isp.
Both modems seem to connect and work ok,
one modem connects at 31.2 the other at 33.6 for a combined speed of 64.8. Files download
at twice the rate they usually do. so everything appears to be doubled in speed. My problem is when i go to play quake 2. It
starts loading up to the point where i'm about to enter the game and at that point i get the BSOD with a message saying something like IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ... anybody have a clue ? ... rob_b

IRQ not less or equal, so you have this BSOD?
Does it work when you are not multilinked?
I need more specific information on the modules that crash. It is most likely a driver related issue but I need more information on your system.

Alegria, thanks for the response. I've figured out what the problem was. Under
      Multiplayer, Player Setup, Connection,
I changed the setting from modem 33.6 to
dual isdn/cable (even though they're not
isdn lines). The BSOD's have stopped. Now
the problem is that I don't see any performance gain when playing quake. The ping and lag are pretty much the same and
sometimes worse. I do see a double performance gain in all other internet activity though such as downloading web pages and internet files. Maybe I need to optimize my modem settings for quake somehow ?? ... Rob

Ping and lag may not decrease when using 2 modems as you are still whatever length away from the server so your little packets won't break the speed of light just because they have twice the bandwidth - you've doubled bandwidth, not speed.
