  • New Vortex2 drivers with DiamondMX300 - Take2!!

Now that I have the new 2048 based Aureal drivers installed and loaded for my MonsterSound MX300, all seems well. But I cannot play Xwing Alliance. I get a blue screen when a mission first loads. Just as the first sound and the first bit of in-cockpit 3d shows. I don't see anything but blue tho. Oh, I should have mentioned that this poop only happens when I have 3D sound set to "Autodetect" or "On" All other games etc that I have tried work fine. I have done a complete uninstall and reinstall and patched XwA to the latest patch(2.02 i think) and still gotta do a hard reset. Help!

I don't play XWing Alliance, so I don't know what the settings screen looks like.

(So I may just be talking crap).

But I would wonder if, since the problem occurs when you have autodetect on, whether that game uses both EAX and A3D.

If so, perhaps the game is having a hard time determining which to choose, and needs to be set manually....

Sadly the readme for the new Vortex 2 drivers doesn't mention XWing, and the only thing in Support on Aureal's site is "run the 2.02 patch"-- all of which I'm sure you've seen, so that's no help...

Have you updated the A3D drivers (3.11 I think, released on 2/25/00)? Maybe that enables better support...

Doesnt Xw A use EAX only? If so try disabling 3d sound totally. If it works then you KNOW the problem is the 3d Sound. If not, the problem is something else. If it has a choice, like holly said, set it to A3d...

The 2.02 patch is specifically for A3D. It does other stuff, but it is mainly for A3D. I can play it in non-3d audio, but that kinda sucks. I will try the new A3D drivers tho... I didn't know that there were any new ones after 2048.
