  • Fed court: broadcast TV nudity OK

The US Second District Circuit Court of Appeals has thrown out the FCC's $1M fine against ABC and 52 of its stations for a 2003 nude scene in NYPD Blue. In this episode Charlotte Ross was shown entering a shower from behind and from a quartering angle.

This basically means that the court has found the FCC's rules against scripted nudity on broadcast TV just as unjustified as those against profanity struck down in the Fox music awards case.

It seems they're agreeing with the position that with TV's now having V-Chips parents have the ability to restrict programming that they couldn't before, making the old rules outdated.

Next stop SCOTUS, if the FCC decides to appeal it.

Now you see? If they had used better angle and went frontal, the court wouldn't say it's 'OK', they'd say it's GREAT! American TV has much to learn..

The human body was made in God's image. The prudes who support censorship don't like to see the human body and they belong largely to the right wing, more extremist elements, of the Church. How can they reconcile their professed beliefs to a dislike of seeing God's image? This kind of paradox is one of the reasons I cannot support the Church. My temple is not built by man.

"Right wing"? The prudery exists on both sides, sir. Some on the right, some on the left. Plenty in the center.

I grew up in a very politically conservative farming community settled by Nordics, Poles, Germans etc. Very religious, mostly Catholic & Evangical Lutheran, yet nearly everyone for generations had been skinny-dipping in mixed company for generations from elementary school to adolescense. I first saw my prom date nude at age 6 while swimming at a back-40 pond. Go to a more "liberal," metropolitan area and do that and everyone would be in counselling and the kids parents under suspicion of God knows what

Fact is, some of the biggest prudes I know are atheist uber-libs. This isn't to say that Baptists etc. aren't prudish, many are, but it's far less political than you were intimating.

semi-naked women eating yoghurts is common on TV. Anything to pique the interest.

I remember comparisons of video game ads from the 80's and 90's between those in the US and elsewhere. Same thing.

And Doc is right, the issue isn't a political or religious one. Some people just believe the nudity equals sex and immorality, and that makes them uncomfortable.

And to put an exclamation point on politics vs. sex, what state in the US is #1 in 'net porn subscriptions?

              California? Nope
              New York? Nope

              the winner is......

              Utah

They need to 'pay' for porn on the Internet ?
I think that shows the biggest point. They don't have google or anything ? LOL

Well, like they say, you have to pay for your sins.
