Franks Furniture in neighboring Wayne, MI (home of the Ford plant that makes the Focus) has been a fixture for decades. This morning a gas explosion blasted away Franks and much of the surrounding block. The hardware store across the street and at the other end of the block had to close because its windows were blown out and the entrance & facade damaged. I felt it 2 miles away, strong enough to rattle the house as if it were hit by a car. I hear others felt it as far away as 5 miles.
The owner is in the U of M Burn Center and a salesman, a secretary and late rumors say a customer are dead. A person driving by in an SUV is in the hospital with projectile injuries and shock.
The smell of gas was reported & the gas company was in the area searching for the source, but the explosion happened before it was found.
